Summary and Contents

When the heavy current is passed through a straight conductor,a magnetic field is set up in the region surrounding a current carrying wire. The lines of force are circular and their direction depends upon the direction of current. The magnetic field lasts only as long as the current is flowing through the wire. The direction of magnetic lines of force can be find out by right hand rule described as “If the wire is grasped in fist of right hand with the thumb pointing in the direction of current, the finger of the hand will circle the wire in the direction of magnetic field.”
